When Two Become One

At my wedding, we had one of those unity sand ceremonies. I thought it would be an incredible representation of how my wife and I had become one without losing our own individual identities. But that is not really oneness. That looks more like roommates. Roommates live under the same roof, eat the same food, and breathe the same air, but they are not one. And if things don’t work out, they can break a lease or get someone else to move in. That’s not marriage. I think a better representation of marriage is mixing blue Kool-Aid and red Kool-Aid to get purple Kool-Aid. As hard as you might try, there is no separating out to get the individual identities. It is something completely new. It is that new oneness that this series explores and what happens among two souls when we say, “I do”.
