Look around. Children are excited about Santa and no school. Families get together in hopes of harmony. Retail stores put everything on sale to get rid of the year’s inventory. Amazon sells out on Christmas classics not found on Netflix. In Austin, at Zilker Park, you can be treated to the Trail of Lights or head over to Mozart’s on the lake for a light show and hot chocolate. Perhaps decorate a tree at your house or even better find one on Loop 360 and make it your own. Or take the kids to the Wells Branch luminaries for hayrides and pictures of screaming infants with St. Nick. Quietly interspersed between hectic shopping, frantic cleaning, and the feeling that there is so much to do and not enough time to do it is the story that initially brought about all of this frenzy. 2000 years ago the unimaginable happened. The author of creation wrote himself into the story. God became a man. The original Christmas came to calm the chaos of our souls and the desperate injustice of our world.
